Things are bloomin’ once again and got some new stuff for 2015, too! After seeing the sunflowers in Avon last summer and missing out on the sale of those seeds, my daughter and I visited Pandy’s and bought 3 different varieties. Those to come later in the season!!

Cats Got My Attention
While there are some really sweet photo ops this time of year, I’ve missed out on a few due to work or it just being horribly cold. Crashed out and recovering from a recent stint of night shifts, both of our cats, TJ and Penny, came up and joined me. Wanting to dust off the camera, I grabbed it and started firing. Both were patient (and comfortable) enough to let me.
The Colony
With the warm weather, I was working in the flower beds, tidying things up. Some of the edging had been broken when I snowblowed this winter. I pulled up a long section and disrupted a large ant colony. Ooops. Couldn’t waste the opportunity.
Gulls Gone Wild
I rarely see gulls around my house, and when I do, there’s usually snow on the ground. That also means that there’s very little food available for them. So when I saw 3 gulls going at a few tiny pieces of bread the neighbor put out, I grabbed the half loaf of white we had and started tossing out big pieces before they took off. As soon as I closed the door, and pulled the curtain to almost-closed, it began. Only a minute passed between the first and last photos. Needless to say, the bread is gone in the last photo.
Creepy Critter
Saw this guy hangin’ out beside the kitchen window. He was kind enough to let me get some portrait shots.
Been pretty busy. Got some shots to edit, but waiting on another tool before I start. More stuff real soon….
Back to Mill Hollow
Cleveland Zoo
I’d been trying to coordinate schedules with Kristen, Mike and Cydnie. We finally found a day we were all available and we took Cydnie to the Zoo for her first visit. We all had a good time, but we were racing the clock, and trying to deal with some hot weather. Took a ton of pics, and hated most of them. One of these days I’ll learn that you can’t rush a shoot and expect to get good pics.
He’s Doing Drops Again
Two weeks ago, I’m looking at the tropical hibiscus we’ve got, and it’s still raining a little bit. Just a misty kinda thing. So, of course I grab the camera. And WOW was THIS cool! So, forgive me for goin’ all “macro” again.
Looking at this after taking it off the memory card, and I see a little something on the stigma.
And there’s that little fella.
Water makes the anthers look a little jagged.
This fly sat there through probably 3 dozen shots before I thought I had a few good shots.
Up Close and Ugly
My family’s pretty kind when it comes to bugs and critters. Spiders that are found in the house usually get scooped up and placed outside, rather than smooshed with a tissue. Moths get caught and tossed out the door. Flies? No mercy. Business end of a paper or magazine. If I’m home when the spiders get caught, they’re presented to me first, in case I want to get some pics. That’s love, ya know?
Thanks to my fam, I got a few personal shots of another wolf spider. And new to my neighborhood, back on July 4th, I found a stag beetle, creeping through the grass in the backyard. Getting as close as I do with these critters can skew their actual size, but this guy is about 2 inches long and change. And those pincers don’t look like they should be taken lightly. Enjoy?
Buzzin’ the Zinnias
Shooting requires a certain element of luck. Knowing what you’re doing is a necessity, but that little something extra that makes a good picture ‘great’? Luck be a great friend. The night I was shootin’ zinnias because I thought the light was perfect, this bumblebee came along. Kind enough to take its time, and give me the opportunity to get in nice and close.
