While there are some really sweet photo ops this time of year, I’ve missed out on a few due to work or it just being horribly cold. Crashed out and recovering from a recent stint of night shifts, both of our cats, TJ and Penny, came up and joined me. Wanting to dust off the camera, I grabbed it and started firing. Both were patient (and comfortable) enough to let me.
So I got to spend a few days in New York. Someone close to me won tickets to Saturday Night Live, invited me along, and we did a whirlwind sightseeing tour of some of the more famous sites over the course of two days. I shot over 1000 pics in that time, so I have tons to share here!
The Crawford Auto Aviation Collection represents Northeast Ohio’s vital role in transportation history. WRHS collects and preserves these historically and technically important automobiles, aircraft, bicycles, motorcycles, related accessories and Automotive Marque Files to illustrate the development and contributions of Northeast Ohio to the history of transportation state-wide, nationally and internationally.
A pavilion was recently constructed to house the Euclid Beach Carousel inside the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland. A new mechanism is being built by the Carousel Society so that the ride can be operated for public use. The horses have been fully restored and they hope to have the ride ready for late 2014.
Earlier this summer, I entered a photo in the Metro Parks “There’s a Park for That” contest. It was a pic from a shoot in May 2009 with my daughter and two of her friends, in front of the fountain at Lakeview Park at night. I found out it won when I drove by Lakeview one evening after work and saw it displayed on a banner in front of the park. A few weeks later, I was contacted and asked if the girls in the shot would be able to appear in a commercial for the MetroParks system. Needless to say, the girls were excited, as was I. (I think I was more tickled than the girls!!) Recently, the commercial editing was completed, and it was uploaded to YouTube, as well as getting airtime on Animal Planet and a few TimeWarner channels. I thought I’d share it here where it first appeared.
After Kristen was done downtown, we needed another location. We stopped at Settlers’ Watch. I stayed away from all the obvious sites this time.
Kristen has got a photography class out at the college, and she needed to get some shots for it. So, while she had to follow certain parameters for her shots, and had an idea of what she wanted, I unpacked thinking I was going to play with something different. I just didn’t know what that was going to be. It didn’t take long to get an idea, though.
Found some other interesting things while I was there, too.
