Lorain County Food Drive and Zombie Walk

While I wait for the final numbers, as far as money raised and participation, Saturday’s Zombie Walk was a LOT of fun! People really get into playing zombies and zombie hunters. Some of these folks are regulars to these zombie walks, as I’ve seen them in more than one photo album for these fundraisers. Everyone was all too willing to pose for photos and get into character. There were raffles for T-shirts and services at a local salon and Don Mould’s Plantation, food from Sweet City Bakeshop, movie tickets for Atlas Cinemas, Morningshow Central Cleveland donated energy drink for the make-up artists, Hastee Tastee donated $1 for every sundae sold, Park Lanes donated 50% of proceeds from bowling and shoes from 4pm-10pm, Angelo’s Pizza had large slices of pizza for $4, Kiedrowski’s donated donuts and bloody jello brains and hearts, and more. Lifeshare was there for blood donations. A lot of help from a lot of businesses, all for a good cause.

Kristen and I donated money, and took non-perishable goods, even though we weren’t “participating,” just taking pictures. We split a sandwich at Church Street Bar and Grill, who were kind enough to be the base of operations for the Walk, and to allow the make-up artists to do their thing on the outdoor patio. Staff were made up as zombies, and the restaurant was very busy, and there were zombie drink specials available. There were vendors set up across the street from Church Street, selling their wares. The event was well-organized, and the participants were extremely considerate of local businesses and the traffic that came up the street. All in all, this was a great event, earned a GREAT deal of respect from me, not only for what they were doing, and the overall coordination of the Walk, but for having the amount of donations and participation that they had, quite a bit from repeat zombies.

All that said, I have more photos than what are featured here, just go to Flickr for the rest!

  1. From the Zombie Facebook page:

“Thank you letter from Second Harvest Food Bank. We donated 1,143 lbs of food and $1,336.25. The food and funds total equal over 8,000 lbs of food, making the 2011 Lorain County Food Drive and Zombie Walk the 3rd highest one day food drive of 2011. From the Lorain County ZORT crew we’d like to say thank you to everyone that made this happen!!!!!!”

    Nicely done!

  2. I didn’t catch this when it was first posted, but I did want to share this. Congrats and “Way to GO!” to all that participated and/or contributed. Looking forward to next year!
